I call at the retail shop with a broken car key the locksmith explained that the car key had a chip in it and explained how I worked in quite some detail, I just thought this was sales patter, he gave me the price to make a new one, I was shocked at the cost, so I refused and left. I call my local garage who told me the same about the key and he new someone who could do it for me at a reasonable price, this turned out to be the same locksmith. I then called my local car dealer to get a telephone price, they explained all the security procedures and I would have to leave the car with them for a few hours and then I got the price... wow expensive and I thought I was being ripped off by the locksmith. I called the locksmith and explained that I had called that morning and I would like the key to be made he arranged for that afternoon. I went to his shop and in 20min and a cup of tea the key was made. On my arrival at home I tried the key in the car and it worked perfectly and only half the price of the factory key.
